ALLAN NICOLSON SECRETARY The season is well and truly nearing its end. The Olympic Games have come and gone and our focus must now be on our State Titles and the Australian Titles in Sydney this year. The Golden Gloves this year were very successful as always with teams from most states. We also had the pleasure of interstate referees and judges assisting our own R&J in this marathon tournament. Next year the proposal is to have the tournament over three days. Another aspect of next year's boxing will be the re-introduction of 3x3 minute rounds for senior boxers. This was very popular as experienced people will recall as it was a true test of stamina. The State Titles this year will be held at the Beenleigh Arena. Weigh in Friday morning 8-10am, Saturday 9-10am and sunday 9-10am. All categories are open class. The divisions are: SJ 10, 11yrs. SB 12, 13yrs. CADET 14,15 and 16 yrs. JR 17, 18yrs. SR 17-33yrs. All these ages are inclusive and include females. Negotiations are under way to arrange a tournament in the UK. If this is a success, a team will be selected from the State Titles. These will be Cadets, Juniors and young Seniors as our development squad. A general meeting is called for the Inala tournament at 2pm where we would like people to put forward their ideas and views regarding the system of the AIS programmes and their lack of success at the Olympics. If anyone has ideas about a reconstruction of the system etc. please bring it forward at the meeting so that our delegate can bring foward the views of the rank and file of the boxing community at the next Boxing Australia Board Meeting. Clubs requiring tournaments contact the secretary - $100 deposit required with booking tournament dates 2008. Weigh-in 12-2pm unless otherwise stated. All club registrations now due - $100 per annum.
